About the Artist
Calligraphy means “the art of beautiful lettering,” but to me, it’s evolved into so much more. Eight years ago I took my first class in pointed pen calligraphy and I haven’t stopped writing since. A few weeks after that class I took three samples down to the local Crane & Co. store and that’s how Just Write Studios began. A few years later I attended my first IAMPETH calligraphy convention and fell in love again. This time, it was with my husband Rick, who was teaching that year. A few months later I moved to the DC area and now we’re happy to call Rockville, MD home. We collect antique ink-wells, treasure every calligraphy piece we've received as gifts or purchased over the years and even named our two chihuahuas after famous penmen.

You can read more about their namesakes (Courtney and Spencer) and others at www.iampeth.com.

Over the years, the members of IAMPETH have become our extended family.  I was privileged to serve as President from 2010-2011 and chaired the annual convention in July of 2011 in Phoenix, Arizona.  If you have any interest in learning more about this beautiful art form, and don't have access to a local teacher, please take time to visit the website where you can download lesson plans, watch videos of the best teachers in action and scans of the work that has given me so much inspiration over the years.  You'll be glad you did!

Engraving has become a wonderful extension of my calligraphy. I often joke that I’ll engrave anything that sits still long enough and some days it feels like that’s true. I engrave everything from toasting flutes, cake servers and knives, to fishing reels, golf clubs and perfume bottles. My two favorite jobs were marriage proposals engraved directly on wine bottles. And in case you’re wondering, they both said “yes." By now you can guess I LOVE what I do. I feel blessed to be working with brides and event planners all over the nation.
